Events & Activities

Guided Walks:
Heather Morrey and a team of volunteers run two programmes of guided walks each year. The subjects are diverse and often link with temporary exhibitions in the museum, anniversaries or national awareness days. Most walks take place in or around the town and are not strenuous. Surrounding rural areas are also occasionally covered. A charge of £2.50 is made per person. Due to the nature of the walks, they are unsuitable for dogs. The programmes are marketed through the Exploring East Sussex scheme of the county council as well as through the museum itself. Pre-booking is not generally required and participation is open to all.

Outings:
A variety of interesting educational day trips by coach are organized throughout the year by Michael & Bettina Openshaw. Destinations are generally within the south east due to time restraints and links with various items in the museum collection or collectors are regularly discovered. All profits assist the museum with its work.

Lunch Outings:
Peter and Brenda Mitchelhill organise a number of successful and popular luncheon outings for members and friends to a variety of venues in the area and provide an opportunity for friends and members to socialize.

Coffee Mornings:
Society Coffee Mornings are held on the first Thursday of every month in the Parkhurst Hall, Parkhurst Road, Bexhill. Admission is open to all and in addition to tea/coffee and biscuits there are usually stalls selling attractive shop goods, cakes and bric-a-brac. All profits assist the museum. The coffee mornings have been a great success and are a good way to meet people and to keep you informed of all the latest things that are happening at the museums. The team of volunteers include Christine O’Grady, June Brewer, John and Karin Malley and Sheila and Dennis Hayes.

Lectures:
Afternoon lectures are held with a wide variety of subjects and formats. These are extremely popular with members and visitors alike. The current venue is the St Augustine’s Hall, Cooden Drive Bexhill. There are car parking facilities, a regular bus service and is close to Collington railway station. Entrance is £2 per person for members, £3 for visitors, which includes refreshments. A raffle is regularly held and the membership secretary is usually in attendance to receive membership renewals, new members and enquires.
