The Quest for Equality Exhibition: afa_clour_logo_550

The Quest for Equality is the museum's first temporary exhibition since re-opening following major extension and refurbishment.

With funding from Awards for All and running from July 2009 to April 2010, this exhibition will investigate the changing roles and status of women from 1900 to the present day. This wide and all-encompassing subject will focus on:

  • The Vote (the enfranchisement of women)
  • Education (educational rights and gender specific subjects)
  • Employment (employment rights and gender specific jobs/careers)
  • Equality (comparing rights of men and women)
  • Domestic (marriage, divorce, roles within the home, technological and scientific advances, fashion)

The exhibition will include items of costume and accessories as well as memorabilia and audio memories. A programme of events on and off site will also accompany the exhibition. More details of these are available at the museum.

Battle Abbey School - Year 13 students

In September 2008 the seven Year 13 Battle Abbey School students studying Art: Textiles at A level decided to produce a creative costume for their last practical unit of coursework.
